Yamaha's Trans Acoustic Gen2 Guitars

Yamaha's Trans Acoustic Gen2 Guitars

The TransAcoustic (TAG) series of guitars are quite unique. In terms of their construction, they are crafted with solid mohagany backs and sides, a mohagany neck, a venetian cutaway and a built in Yamaha pick up system. This alone, makes it a very nice sounding and playing acoustic guitar. That's not the particularly unique part. What is unique is that they use Yamaha's proprietary Trans Acoustic technology to create rich layered tones including reverb, chorus, delay and now a looper... all without the use of any external amplifier, speaker or pedals. That's right, all of the sound, layers and loops are reproduced using actuators in the guitar and the guitars body itself to reproduce the sounds along with the actual guitar. It's a bit mind bending but it works and it is awesome.

In this second generation of the TAG guitars, Yamaha has added delay and more impressively, a multi layered looper. Again, all built into the guitar, completely self contained, no amplifier. That said, you can amplify all of this but the main point is that you do not have to.

The controls on the side of the guitar control all of these functions with a extreme level of ease. For example, sitting on the dock at your cottage, you could push and hold one button to enter loop mode. The guitar senses when you start playing. You play a loop and when you are finished you simply tap the circular sensor on the top of the guitar. Your loop will automatically start looping. You can then play along with it or choose to add another layer. The creative possibilities are essentially endless.

All of this cool power is powered by an internal rechargeable lithium battery which provides up to 5.5 hours of playing time. Wanna go deeper? The TAG Remote app allows for deeper customization of the effect parameters and loops.

Bottom line, for those who would like a very nice guitar along with all of these features, this guitar delivers and is a bargain at its $2000 price range. For those who don't care to have the features, they could opt to look at one of Yamaha's (non transAcoustic) models and get the same level of guitar without the TAG features for a lower price.

Either way, do yourself a favor and drop in to try one, they are incredible.
