Yamaha just started shipping the DGX 640. Replacing the DGX 630 this new model sports an improved set of sounds, an improved PA system and a more professional look. It comes complete with a full three sided stand and sustain pedal. This keyboard has 88 fully weighted keys. With hundreds of sounds and pre-programmed accompaniments as well as a built in recorder this keyboard packs a ton of punch for not a ton of dollars. At around $1000 it is completely suitable for a mid level piano student or recreational player or a piano playing songwriter. Given its considerable recording capabilities, this keyboard is also very suitable for a non piano playing songwriter who would use its pre-programmed functions to help create backing tracks to be used in recording. It used to be that this type of quality was only available in much more expensive and much more complicated keyboards. But now, users of all levels can benefit from its quality at a price that most would be comfortable with.
