We got, D16GT's one of our most popular Martin models, D15M's Martin's solid mahogany body guitars, awesome sounding. We also got OOO15M, the smaller body version of the D15M and some D35's the most famous of all Martin dreadnaught guitars. So, we're all set for Christmas shopping and probably beyond with these new arrivals. With the exception of the D35's these models are all in the $1000 range which make them potential Christmas gifts, really really nice Christmas gifts. For more information about these models you can read about them on the Martin website here.

Latest Nash Les Paul is on its way!

Those with a good memory or just a really keen interest in the Gibson Les Paul's that we keep sending down to Washington to be aged to perfection will be happy to know that our most recent masterpiece is finished and on it's way back to us. If by chance you don't remember, we sent Bill Nash a brand new Les Paul Standard about a month ago . It has now been aged and is on its way back. The advanced information on it suggest that it will be finished as honey burst. The rest of the details are always a surprise as they don't send us photos. Nonetheless, one thing is always for sure regardless of how it looks. It will play and sound incredible, they always do. Stay tuned as we will announce when it finally arrives.

New Nash Relic's on the way!

Finally, I found a Nash from their available stock that I liked and wanted to bring in. As most of you know, I'm a big fan of the Nash guitars. We have been a supporter of the relic master's work for a number of years now. As a merchant of his product I can either custom order a product from his catalog or I can hope to find something I like from his stray list that is presented to me about twice per week. Usually, I have been able to find almost anything that I wanted from the stray lists. This is much better for me as these guitars can be in my store in as little as 10 days. If I custom order something it would take up to 3 months. Lately, however I haven't seen anything that I've liked until now. I just bought the surf green strat and the natural tele custom. Both look amazing and should be in the store by the end of next week. Stay posted for their arrival notices.

Yamaha brings a bit of bling to its drum line

Yamaha has long been recognized as one of the world leaders in the drum department, both acoustic and electronic. What they are NOT is a company that makes an inexpensive line of drums. That is, up until now. Yamaha has never wanted to be associated with cheap drums which is why they have never made them. However, in that past year they have come up with a great quality kit at a really competitive price... finally. The Gig Maker kits has top notch Yamaha hardware and the shells are very high quality wood and construction. For less then $600 for this 5 pc kit (sans cymbals and a throne) this makes for a really great value. Great price finally gets you world renowned Yamaha drums. And what's even cooler is all of the new sparkle finishes that they have just released. We've got a number of these kits in stock now for you to check out.

Lots of New Martin's Arriving soon

We're a music store so it's not surprising that guitars come and go here but these particular Martin guitars tend to go faster then most. The 15 series are Martin's all Mahogany models and while they look less traditional then many guitars they sound awesome. What's better is that they are priced well below many other competitors of similar value and sound quality. An all solid guitar completely made in the US with a custom case all for around the $1000 mark, very hard to beat. Also on the way we have a D35 as well as some D16GT's which are always a favorite. So, when it comes to Martin guitars, we've got one of Toronto's best varieties. For those who are not familiar, T-REX is a small company based in Denmark that was started by two guitar playing gear geeks Lars Dalh and Sebastion Jensen. Originally, they focused on producing midi gear for guitar but in the 90's they changed their focus to making high quality single function pedals. Lots has changed since the 90's but T-REX has remained focused on their mission. We have just received a nice assortment of their pedals into the store for you to try. Judging by the initial response, these pedals are going to enjoy good success here at KAOS. For more information you can check out the T-REX website here.

Blackstar Pedals Arrive at KAOS

In the world of guitar pedals, especially distortion, overdrive and boost pedals there is no one perfect pedal. Dozens of manufacturers make this type of pedal and nobody agrees which one is the best. Truth is, it depends on many factors. First and foremost, it depends largely on the opinion of the person using a particular pedal. However, other factors such as which guitar, which amp, the other pedals being used etc all contribute to how a pedal sounds. That said, Blackstar, the newest amp manufacturing sensation has released a small line of boost and effect pedals which are being really well received by our staff and customers. From distortion to boost and from delay to modulation they make a nice selection of very high quality pedals that sound great. We have many of these new pedals in stock for you to try, we think you'll like them.

A New Les Paul about to become very old!

It's a love/hate thing with our customers but enough of them love the idea. I'm referring to the process of taking a perfectly new Gibson Les Paul and sending it to our friend in Washington Bill Nash to have him make it look 40 some odd years old. The process is called aging and there are few people who can do it well. Bill Nash is definitely one of the masters. When he tackles a Les Paul, he must start with an authentic Gibson product. In our case, we always send him brand new pieces. He goes on to completely disassemble them, age them and put them back together as well as replaces the pick ups. In the end, you get a really authentically old looking guitar that plays and sounds way better then the original. Its lots of fun and we continue to sell these unique pieces. This one should be back in about 2-3 months. Watch for it. How many times can we reinvent this product. Well it's official, I'm just a grumpy old guy. This product is awesome and Boss has done a great job taking a familiar concept and improving it with a bunch of great features. Here is an abbreviated list... 4 track at a time recording (unheard of at this price), built in stereo condenser mics for field or rehearsal recording, awesome guitar, bass and vocal effects and its an audio interface that can be used with just about any DAW. It comes with Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 LE with a ton of audio loops and backing tracks included. It's easy to run and the sound quality is staggering. All for under $500. It's true, I've been around for a long time and I get bored with products sometimes but this is a fresh, new and very improved version of a product that has been available for a long time. okay... I was wrong and I'm sorry Mr Boss.

New Blackstar product on the way

With the continued success of the Blackstar amps in our store we have ordered some additional models. Coming soon to our showroom are the Venue series HT20 and the Club series HT Club 40. Based on the highly acclaimed HT 5 amplifier the HT 20 is the big brother version weighing in at 20 watts with a 12" Celestion speaker and an EL34 equipped power section. This amp is perfect for home, studio or recording work not to mention rehearsal or small performance settings. The Club HT40 is a 2 channel, 4 mode amp with 40 watts and the same 12" Celestion speaker ideal for performance but also very suitable for all of the aforementioned applications. All the specs and descriptions in the world can't really tell you why these amps are selling so well. The reason is obvious, they sound really good and apparently a bit better then what people have been hearing in other amps in the same price range. These amps should be arriving in the next few days. Give us a call and then drop in to give them a try for yourself.

Limited Edition Slash Les Paul on the way!

Based on the Gibson USA and Custom Shop guitars produced earlier this year, this guitar is a tribute to the Les Paul he created legendary album Appetite for Destruction with. The P series was born years ago with the P 60. Back then (maybe 10 years ago) the P 60 sold for $1299 if my memory serves me correctly. At that time the big deal was that Yamaha had produced a digital piano with great fully weighted keys that weighed less then 50 lbs and was half the cost of its closest competitor. Since then there has been no less then 6 more incarnations of this piano, the most current being the P 95. In our store now, the P95 still weighs less then 50 lbs, sounds fantastic (comparatively to the rest of the digital piano world) and now is priced less then $700. At around $1000 it is completely suitable for a mid level piano student or recreational player or a piano playing songwriter. Given its considerable recording capabilities, this keyboard is also very suitable for a non piano playing songwriter who would use its pre-programmed functions to help create backing tracks to be used in recording. This fact alone is not that big a deal as I get a dozen or more emails every day from my industry reps and friends. Luckily for me I decided to look at it right away. Among other things it said that Martin was to build 55 commemorative D18's to celebrate the current president Chris Martin IV's contribution to the company. Now, limited edition Martins are not only always really nice, they are generally great investments because of their unique existence. The email said that Canada was only getting a few and if anyone was interested to please email back right away and he would try to get one for them. Usually, I don't buy product this way but I instinctively hit reply and asked him to do his best to get me one. He obviously did and we are now quite excited that it has finally shipped from Martin and should be here next week. The Martin website has tons of information on it here but suffice to say that this guitar will be a superb finger picking, bluegrass or country instrument. As well, I'm told that because of it's unique mahogany construction that it is also beautifully balanced making it a great recording instrument. The D18 has a long history of players including Elvis and Hank Williams. Check in next week to see this gem in real life. Well, school's back in and retail is heating back up. With that, this gem has just shipped from our friends at Nash Guitars in Washington. We should receive it within a week or so. I couldn't resist this one, its a T52 Tele with Lollar pick ups and a medium C neck. It's a unique relic level. I'm not sure whether to call it a medium relic or a heavy. The body is uniquely beat up (most of the reason I was attracted to it) but the neck is not as aged. In any case, it may be the coolest looking relic we have ever ordered and all of the Nash Guitars feel great and play beautifully. Watch out for this one sometime next week. Well, Godin has been making perhaps one of the best single coil guitars in the world for some time now but stores have been reluctant to carry it. A few months ago, we (Lou, Jay and I) had an opportunity to speak with Robert Godin at the recent Miac show. This was a real pleasure mainly because Robert is a guy who obviously loves his work. His enthusiasm was infectious and his passion for his pet project the RG-3 was compelling. By the end of the conversation we had all but decided that we would get behind the RG-3 Passion guitar. This is good news for people's never ending appetite for newer, cooler toys. The down side is that because of the industries relatively small size, manufacturers often have a hard time keeping up production on popular products. The more popular the product, the slower the delivery. As is the case with Roland's JS-8 Jam Station. This product is so cool and so much fun for it's users, Roland is not even close to being able to keep up with the demand. We've been waiting almost 3 months for this recent shipment and even then, we only got half of what we ordered. That said, we are keep two units from this recent shipment for our school lesson rooms. Why such a big deal you ask? Well, first of all they are a formidable competitor to the Gibson Les Paul. Secondly, they are made by Godin in Canada which mean they possess legendary awesome quality. Thirdly, these guitars are less then half the cost of a similar Gibson.

Now, there have been a lot of comparisons between these guitars and Gibson Les Paul's for somewhat obvious reasons. They look very similar, they have somewhat similar pick up configurations and they are made from similar woods. They are also geared towards a similar sound. That said, these guitars take the traditional Gibson format to a new level with a number of very unique features.

The Type 2 Fat Black model comes with a Godin GHN1 neck humbucker and a Seymour Duncan '59 in the bridge position. The Type 2 Classic has same pick up set up. The Type 2 Convertible has 2 Seymour Duncan P-Rail pickups with a 3 way switch and two mini switches. The Type 3 has three Lollar P90 single coil pickups and a 5 way switch. All models have the High-Definition Revoicer circuit which changes the tonal characteristic of each position. These various pick up configurations offer players tons of new tone possibilities.

All of the models are made from chambered solid mahogany with a carved mahogany top which produce that big fat sound. In a nutshell, these guitars sound awesome and I dare say a fair bit more versatile then their Gibson cousins. We're pretty excited about them and can't wait to start showing them off. We have 4 different models in stock now for you to give try.

Mint US Strat Just In..

Just in from a recent trade, this mint condition 3T Sunburst US made Fender Stratocaster. At the recent summer NAMM show, Martin announced that it would build 55 of these commemorative instruments to honor their current President Christian Martin IV. Normally, we're not that keen on special or limited edition Martins. Not because they're not great, it's just that they are usually pretty expensive. This one however is pretty reasonable at less then $5000. The other thing that jumped off the page about this guitar is that the sides and back are made from quilted mahogany. Since starting to stock the D15 models (made from all mahogany) we have become fast fans of how good guitars made from this wood sound. So, when I saw that Martin had decided to make this guitar using mahogany combined with the price I jumped on it. The serendipitous part is that I happened to be working early that morning when the email arrived about these guitars. Add to that, my rep was also obviously sitting at his computer when my email asking for one of these came in led to us being able to secure an extremely limited quantity guitar. The arrival of this guitar is set for sometime in the next 45 days. There was a delay in the painting process of the guitar. It was decided that this guitar would be best suited to be refinished as a gold top. Problem was, there was a backorder on the gold paint needed. You may be thinking, how hard is it to get gold paint. I thought the same thing initially. However, apparently, this particular gold paint is quite specific and only available from a few sources so if you have to wait, you have to wait. Anyone who knows Bill Nash knows that the one thing he will not do is compromise when it comes to making his guitars look authentic. In any case, the paint is in so my brand new Gibson Les Paul Traditional will soon be back with us only as a '57 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top. Anticipation levels are pretty high over here at the store as the last Les Paul that we got (just a few weeks ago) sold in less then 3 hours. It is pictured on our Nash page but we can tell you that it played and sounded as sweet as it looked. The series is broken up into three levels. The 500 series, the 700 series and the 900 series. Firstly, all of the guitars in this series are the same size. Starting at the 500 series, these guitars are constructed from ply spruce and nato which make them extremely good sounding and very resistant to moisture changes making them very good as a guitar to be used outside a lot. The 500 series has a 1-way piezo pick up system and is available in many different colors. The 700 series is the same but with a solid spruce top and the first level of Yamaha's renowned ART pick up system. For all practical purposes, the 700 series is a better sounding version of the 500 series due to the solid wood and pick up system. The 900 series is the super supped up version of the 700. It too has a solid spruce top but flamed maple sides and back with an ebony fingerboard for look, comfort and sound quality. The pick up system is upgraded as well to the ART 3 way system which gives users the most versatility and best sound quality by a long shot. Back in the beginning, this type of small, pocket sized guitar processor was pretty unique albeit a bit expensive for the time. However, over the years, there has been a few incarnations of this series and this PX4D is the most recent. Like its predecessors the PX4D has lots of built in effects for guitar and bass. New to this version is the addition of numerous amp models as well as many cabinet models all designed to make the unit sound more authentic. Up to seven effects can be used at once giving the used virtually unlimited sonic potential. The unit also has a built in phrase training feature great for recording something from a mp3 player, slowing it down and looping, great for lifting hard to figure out parts. It also has 100 built in drum and bass patterns for you to practice over top of. Another cool feature for bass players is a bass cancel feature that lets you eliminate the bass from an external audio source. So, it goes without saying that this unit is a fantastic practice aid. More then that though, it could be used in home recording utilizing the guitar processor functions as well as the drums and bass patterns. While it is not really designed for performance, it would be a lot easier to transport this little box to a rehearsal then your full pedal set up. At less then $200 it makes a lot of sense. Oh, it really sounds good. Just a few days after sending it, my contact at Nash Guitars called to let me know that even though I had commissioned a new Les Paul Relic, they had just completed one of their own and I was in line to buy it. The result would be that I would end up with two Les Paul Relics instead of my intended one. To be honest, the decision wasn't that hard. I have always had really good luck selling these guitars so I agreed to purchase the second guitar. Well, it arrived a few days ago and was pretty much sold that same day. I was lucky to get a chance to get these pictures of it before it was picked up. The previous Les Paul Relics that we have purchased from Nash had been finished in a cherry burst. They were beautiful but somehow, this lemon drop finish was in our opinion a bit nicer. As always, these instruments play and sound incredible due to the Nash modifications. Luckily, the next one to arrive should be here in a week or two and will be finished as a '59 Gold Top. We can't wait. We have officially added Blackstar Amplification to our lineup of gear. Why another amp line you might ask? Well, while there are some absolute stars among our current amp lineup there are a number of amps that just don't seem to be exciting our customer's any longer. We theorize that guitarists are just not hearing any new tones or tones that they like out of many of the current amplifiers on the market. Blackstar is a relatively new company based in the UK. Their founders are made up of ex "other amp companies". While they have years of experience building amps, they have chosen to focus on building products that expand the tonal possibilities rather then simply duplicating them in different packages. As you can tell by the body shape, Godin has taken direct aim at Gibson's Les Paul. However, like pretty much everything Godin, they have taken an existing standard and vastly improved upon it by utilizing superior manufacturing techniques and very 'player centric' thinking. So, lets get to the details...

There are 4 models to choose from, each with a specific player in mind. The first two models are the same under the hood but a bit different looking. The Icon Fat Black and the Icon Classic are both fitted with Godin's GHN1 pick up in the neck and a Seymour Duncan '59 in the bridge position. Both have a 5 way toggle and the famous Godin High-Definition Revoicer switch that significantly changes the sound of the pick ups giving you lots and lots of different tone possibilities. The Fat Black is well, all black and does not sport any pick up covers. The Classic is available in a dark natural finish as well as a burgundy finish. The Classic also has chrome pick up covers and cream pick up rings. The next model is the Icon Convertible. Available in either Natural or Sunburst it has two Seymour Duncan P-Rail Convertible pick ups, a 3 way toggle and 2 mini switches to switch between single coil, humbucker and P-90 mode on each of the pick ups. It also has the High Definition Revoicer built in. This model has cream pick up covers and black rings. The Convertible is super flexible due to its pick ups and the controls over them. The last model is the Icon Type 3. This model has 3 Jason Lollar P-90 pick ups, the High Definition Revoicer, a 5 way toggle, a volume and a tone. It is available in black, natural or burgundy. The combination of Lollar pick ups and the fact that there are 3 of them gives this guitar a very unique and exquisite sound.

So, there you have it. 4 new model, 8 color possibilities and 3 different pick up choices equals a whole line of guitars for players to choose from. These guitars would be easily suitable for a pro needing great flexibility right on down to an entry level player wanting a really great first guitar. Thing is, while this is not the least expensive guitar you could buy, it is less then half of the price of the guitars that it competes directly with. Add to that, these guitars are made exclusively in North America split between Godin's New Jersey plant and one of their Quebec facilities. Once again, Godin delivers top quality products at reasonable prices.

For more information check out the new ICON page at Godin.

Most popular pedal .. There are just too many pedals on the market for people to choose from. However, every once in a while a company, usually Boss, nails it with something really cool and you end up selling lots of them. Just such a pedal is the Boss RC2 Loop Station. Like all loop pedals, the RC2 lets you play a phrase into it in real time and have it loop while you play over top of it. If you like, you can overdub more material to make your phrase more complex. There is no limit to how many overdubs that you can do, only a total memory limit which is 16 minutes. Add to that a really good assortment of drum patterns to use and 11 memory spots to store your loops and you get a really fun and useful pedal at well under $300 which is on the low side of loop pedal prices. Check out Jay in our Product Videos explaining and demonstrating the RC2.

It was good before it got improved!

Our friends at Godin continue to cool things. The Norman ST68 was always a good guitar, it's been on the market for years now. In the $900-$1100 range, it has lots of competition but it has always held its own. Recently, Godin decided to take this model over the top and start making it from all solid woods instead of ply backs and sides. This has taken an already great model and turned it into one of the best guitars in the store, in ANY price range. The improvement in sound is staggering and the guitar has always looked fantastic. It's available as a standard dreadnaught with or without pickup or as a cutaway dreadnaught with the new Fishman pickup system. Our first "all solid" version of this guitar has already come and gone but more are on the way. When they arrive be sure to take the opportunity to come by and check it out.

Time's flying for this Les Paul

What's special about a black Gibson Les Paul Tradional? Well, other then it's a really nice guitar, nothing really. Nothing that is until we send it down to Washington to be aged by the master of guitar relic's Bill Nash. In about 4 weeks this guitar will return looking like a 40 year old guitar but playing like a brand new guitar, better actually due to the improved pick ups that will have been installed. Bill Nash has been producing some of the worlds most sought after Fender type relics for years now but only recently has he been producing Gibson relics. There is a major difference between the Fender relics and the Gibson. The Fender relics are not actual Fender guitars to begin with. Bill Nash assembles the Fender type guitars using licensed parts from various sources and ages them to create the relic. In the case of a Gibson relic, Nash must begin with an actual Gibson Les Paul due to the lack of Gibson licensed parts available. This results in a more expensive but much higher quality and much much more valuable end result, a real, modern day Gibson Les Paul that looks like a 40 year old guitar. The other thing about the Gibson relic's is that Nash only makes a handful of these per year making them much more collectable then the Fender relic's.

Watch for the transformation pictures when this guitar returns to us 40 years older in about 4 weeks.

Lot's of GODIN SD's just arrived

The Godin SD has long since been one of our most favorite guitars from the famed Canadian company. The SD is a great "everything" guitar. It has the comfort and ease of a 24 3/4" neck but maintains a crisp sound thanks to its rock maple neck and crystal clear Godin pick ups. Its body has a diagonal radius carved into it for additional comfort. At under $500, this guitar has always been one of if not THE best value on the market in its price range. Even though we didn't really need any more high end guitars at this time, we couldn't help ourselves (we love these guitars) given the great pricing offered by our friends over at Yamaha. We bought a Yamaha LS 26 II and an LS 36 II. Both guitars just arrived into the store a few days ago and did not disappoint. As some of you will know, Bill Nash of NASH Guitars had previously taken some brand new Gibson Les Paul's and put them through a complete aging process including new electronics and pick ups. They were sold on a lottery basis and we had been fortunate enough to get two of them over the past 18 months. Both sold promptly. For those who got a chance to see and play these guitars all would agree that not only did they sound superior to an original Les Paul they looked awesome (as do all of Bill Nash's relics.) In past months, the elusive Bill Nash has been pretty tight lipped about when more of these creations would be available. However, just the other day he announced that he would begin taking orders for new Les Paul Relics. Now however, the dealer must submit a picture of one their own inventory that they would like Nash to perform the relic on. Once approved, we send our own Les Paul to Olympia, Washington to be treated and sent back.

This opens up some cool possibilities. Firstly, we now don't have to wait to be chosen to buy one, we can order one anytime. Also, we can submit used Les Paul's to be relic'd. As well, we can choose to a certain degree the finish based on the type of finish that we submit. All good, all around. Once finished, these relic'd Gibson Les Paul's usually sell for around $4000. Each is naturally 100% Gibson (except for the replaced DiMarizio pick ups) and completely custom made and 100% unique. Watch for our first one coming sometime in the next 30-60 days.

For more information about these guitars visit the Nash Guitar Website Here.

New Kingpin's arriving every day

Back a few years ago, Godin released the original incarnation of the Kingpin. At first, the 5th Ave (as the non electric version is called) was an archtop reminiscent of a time gone by but with all of today's level of modern playability. Thanks to its modern design and manufacturing techniques, the 5th Ave produced incredible tone along with greater projection then any other traditional archtop. The result was a truly fantastic sounding and very affordable guitar that almost every guitar player could and would enjoy playing. Naturally, almost everyone wanted to plug it in which led to the second guitar in the line, the Kingpin. Godin added a neck position P90 pick up to the 5th Ave. As everyone predicted, the result was incredibly smooth tone. Taking it one step further, Godin recently released the Kingpin Cutaway which features a pair of P90's opening up an even greater range of tonal possibilities.

In stock now we have the 5th Ave as well as the Kingpin and the Kingpin Cutaway is slated to arrive any day now. The first of 3 models slated to arrive the DCPA-1 is a D-14 Fret Cutaway shaped body made from solid East Indian Rosewood with a solid Sitka Spruce top. The neck is select hardwood with a solid Black Ebony fingerboard. It has a scale length of 25.4". The pick up system is the Fishman Aura 1. The body/neck construction is a standard Martin mortise/tenon neck joint and the bracing pattern is Martin's hybrid X scalloped. All that to say that this guitar is based on all of the superb features that make Martin Standard series guitars so good. At first glance, this guitar does not look like a typical Martin. The newer design has been created on purpose to appeal to a newer breed of player with the wood binding, different shaped pick guard and the cutaway. The pick up system definitely has the performing player in mind but is a really nice touch for a less professional player who would simply like to plug in or do some really high quality home recording. At around the $3000 mark this guitar is very competitively priced given its features compared to other well established Martin models. Eagerly awaited, we were not disappointed. The Session is the third guitar in this line and to date the most affordable at right around $500 depending on the finish. The Session is based on the award winning design of Godin's custom made Passion guitar. Although scaled down to fit into a price range, it shares many feature of its more advance sibling. Obviously it is shaped in the spirit of a Fender Stratocaster but this is where most of the similarities end. It is constructed from Canadian Basswood and has a rock maple neck available with either a rosewood or maple fingerboard. For pick ups it uses Godin GS-1 single coil and a specially made Godin humbucker in the bridge position which can be split into a single coil pick up via the push pull tone knob. It's inexpensive enough for any player to buy and offers such great tone that many just might.
